THE UNITED AFRICAN COALITION ENDORSES TALI FARHADIAN WEINSTEIN FOR MANHATTAN DA

NEW YORK — Today, the United African Coalition announces their endorsement of Tali Farhadian Weinstein for Manhattan district attorney.

“Last year’s challenges further exposed the stark inequality in America, a country where the incarceration of its citizens are disproportionately from Black and brown communities,” said Bukola Shonuga, Executive Director.  “Manhattan, the melting pot of New York City, deserves a district attorney who is fearless in the fight for equality and justice. As an immigrant, Tali understands the struggles and challenges faced by marginalized communities and supports bold criminal justice reform models that will bring the balance New Yorkers have long asked for.”

Tali is uniquely qualified for the position of Manhattan’s top law enforcement officer. Throughout Barack Obama’s presidency, Tali worked at the U.S. Department of Justice, first as Counsel to Attorney General Eric Holder, and then as a federal prosecutor. As an Assistant U.S. Attorney, Tali investigated and prosecuted cases ranging from gun violence and murders to public corruption, tax and other frauds, and national security matters.

“Tali’s life experiences have shaped her conviction that a society is obligated to ensure a safe, fair and just system for all,” said Charles Cooper, Chairman. “UNAC, the broad coalition of civic and religious African organizations, proudly endorses and supports Tali Farhadian Weinstein for the next competent, fair, sound, compassionate Manhattan district attorney.”

The United African Coalition, UNAC is a political institution serving as the umbrella organization representing the electoral interest of the 3 million continental Africans in the United States. Since its founding in 2013, UNAC continues to educate its constituents on the importance of civic engagement to ensure their voices are heard and to make sure they vote.

“The past year has made it undeniably clear that social, racial, and economic inequality remains deeply ingrained in our society. And it is in these moments, when we are working to grapple with and solve these issues, that we rely on and celebrate community organizations, like the United African Coalition that have long fought to create a better society for all,” said Tali Farhardian Weinstein. “I’m deeply grateful to be endorsed by the UNAC and look forward to working closely together in partnership while I’m in office.”
