NEW YORK – Tali Farhadian Weinstein, candidate for Manhattan district attorney, has teamed up with Jacob Weisberg and Malcolm Gladwell, the co-founders of Pushkin Industries, to produce Hearing, a criminal justice podcast.

A new type of political podcast, Hearing offers a fresh take on the campaign trail, where listeners will hear Tali interrogate her subjects, and herself, on how to build a fair and fearless future.

In the first season of Hearing, Tali hosts expansive, thoughtful conversations with elected officials, policy experts, journalists, and community leaders. Her guests come from a wide range of backgrounds but are all engaged in the battle for a better justice system, one that balances safety and fairness and delivers on equality.

“I believe that leaders listen,” said Tali Farhadian Weinstein. “Until there is a Coronavirus vaccine that reaches every corner of Manhattan, this will be an election unlike any New York City has ever had. I am thrilled that Hearing will be the first campaign podcast to take the conversation around rebuilding our criminal justice system directly to the voter. Making change requires expansive nuanced and sometimes difficult conversations, and I believe sharing these discussions is a vital part of leading a meaningful campaign.”

The first two episodes of Hearing are now available on all podcast platforms, with new episodes dropping weekly on Thursdays.

In the prologue episode “The Law Can Never Be Impersonal” with Malcolm Gladwell, Tali discusses her family’s most important story. In episode one, “A Journey To A Place of Trust,” Tali talks to New Yorker Staff Writer Jiayang Fan about doing justice in immigrant communities – both legally and narratively.

“Hearing breaks new ground when it comes to campaigning,” said Pushkin co-founder and CEO Jacob Weisberg. “Tali is using this podcast as a new way to engage with her community at a moment when in-person events are limited by the pandemic. Hearing helps to bridge that gap by bringing crucial conversations about criminal justice directly to the ears of Manhattan voters.”

Candidate for Manhattan district attorney, Tali is a prosecutor and proven criminal justice reformer. Until recently, Tali served as the General Counsel to Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez, where she helped build and lead a new, stand-alone Law Enforcement Accountability Bureau and the first Post-Conviction Justice Bureau in the country. Throughout Barack Obama’s presidency, Tali worked in the U.S. Department of Justice, first as Counsel to Attorney General Eric Holder, and then as a federal prosecutor in New York’s Eastern District.

Pushkin Industries is an audio production company co-founded by Jacob Weisberg and Malcolm Gladwell in 2018. Alexander Pushkin, the Russian Romantic writer, is our inspiration. Pushkin was a hybrid, a mix of Russian, African, and French ancestry — as well as a philosopher, poet, playwright, and novelist. Like him, our company is curious about everything and always wants to try something new. Diversity is at the heart of our culture, alongside intellectual openness, respect, fairness, and ethical behavior.
