NEW YORK – To kick off Women’s History Month, Tali Farhadian Weinstein, candidate for Manhattan District Attorney, announced the endorsement of Ruth Messinger – famed social justice activist, former Manhattan Borough President, and first woman nominated by the Democratic party to run for mayor of New York.
“New York needs a capable, compassionate, and experienced leader to guide us out of the dislocations the pandemic has caused. Tali is the woman to meet the moment. Her experience across American legal institutions and her commitment to advancing equity and justice are unparalleled,” said Ruth Messinger. “In the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office, she played an integral role in implementing a criminal justice reform agenda. I am confident she will bring her insights from that experience to Manhattan. I am so proud to endorse and help elect Manhattan’s first woman and first immigrant District Attorney elected.”

Throughout this Women’s History Month, as she pursues her own historic run for office, Tali will be conducting virtual conversations with women leaders from a diverse array of fields, to highlight their groundbreaking work and also what remains in the fight for true gender equality.
- Her podcast, Hearing, will feature the voices of four New York women leaders: Senator Kirsten Gillibrand; author, artist, and producer, Tanya Selvaratnam; lawyer and Time’s Up Legal Defense Fund co-founder, Robbie Kaplan; and spiritual leader of Congregation Beit Simchat Torah and social activist, Rabbi Sharon Kleinbaum.
- On Instagram, Tali will host a Live series with women fighting for justice including:
- Alysia Reiner, actress and activist;
- Christy Turlington Burns; founder of Every Mother Counts and advocate for maternal health; and
- Dr. Dara Kass, emergency room physician and advocate for women in medicine, and Reshma Saujani, founder of Girls Who Code, on the Marshall Plan for Moms.
- Tali will also announce more programming with women throughout the month.
An experienced prosecutor, Tali is the former General Counsel to Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonazlez, and during the Obama Administration she served as Counsel to former US Attorney General Eric Holder and as an Assistant US Attorney for the Eastern District of New York under then-US Attorney Loretta Lynch.
Ruth Messinger is currently the Global Ambassador for the American Jewish World Service and previously was the organization’s President. In this role, she fights for oppressed groups internationally with the help of rabbis and faith leaders. Ruth is also the Social Justice Activist-in-Residence at the JCC of Manhattan and a Social Justice Fellow at the Jewish Theological Seminary of America. A lifelong public servant, she served as a New York City Council Member, as Manhattan Borough President, and was the first woman nominated by the Democratic party to run for mayor of New York. She has spent her career fighting to eliminate racial, gender, and sex barriers. Messinger is an outspoken advocate for social justice in all realms of society.
Tali most recently served as General Counsel to Brooklyn DA Gonzalez, where she directed complex litigation, managed multiple bureaus and led the creation of the Post-Conviction Justice Bureau – including the Conviction Review Unit that serves as a national model and recently published a ground-breaking report reckoning with wrongful convictions. During the Obama Administration, she was Counsel to Attorney General Holder. As an Assistant US Attorney for New York’s Eastern District under then-US Attorney, and later Attorney General, Loretta Lynch, Tali prosecuted gun crimes, murders, tax fraud and evasion, public corruption, and national security cases. A graduate of Yale College, Oxford University, where she was a Rhodes Scholar, and Yale Law School, Tali began her career as a Law Clerk for incoming US Attorney General nominee Merrick B. Garland and for Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor.
